Ches Penney - Founder and Chairman - February 28, 1932 - January 26, 2017

Our Founder and visionary will be forever missed. His work ethic, commitment to his community and fierce loyalty to his partners are his greatest legacy. Ches’ long and fruitful career produced companies which spanned multiple industries, covering everything from automobiles, heavy construction, energy services and real estate. Through his partnerships with many talented people, his strong leadership abilities and a lifetime of hard work, he successfully built one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest private commercial enterprises.

In recognition of his personal generosity and commitment to his community, Ches was named to the Order of Canada, the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador, and awarded an honorary doctorate from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Greg Warren, President and CEO

Greg Warren joined the Penney Group as President and CEO in January 2021. He works closely with the Board of Directors and is responsible for development and implementation of the company’s short and long-term strategies. As a hands-on leader, Mr. Warren is focused on oversight of the management team, maximizing investment returns, growth and diversification, strengthening stakeholder relations, and corporate and social responsibility.

Mr. Warren obtained his Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 2000 and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Acadia University. A former Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), he spent 20-plus years working as a trusted business adviser to a vast number of businesses providing tax, financial, management consulting, accounting and auditing services.

Mr. Warren currently serves as the Treasurer of the Rotary Club of the Avalon Northeast.

Mr. Warren lives with his wife and two children in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

Jason Silver, CFO

Jason Silver joined the Penney Group as CFO in May 2022. He has spent most of his career serving in senior management and executive roles in the public sector in both the Municipal and Provincial levels, most recently serving as Chief Financial and Information Officer for a Crown Corporation.

Mr. Silver has considerable community and professional board experience in Newfoundland and Labrador, including the Kidney Foundation of Canada National Board, the Kidney Foundation of Canada – Newfoundland and Labrador Branch, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Chartered Professional Accountants Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Institute of Internal Auditors (Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter), and the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada (Newfoundland and Labrador Branch). He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Paradise Minor Hockey Association as Treasurer and on the Governance Committee for the Chartered Professional Accountants Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mr. Silver is a Fellow Chartered Accountant/Chartered Professional Accountant (2011), completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (1997), received his Chartered Accountant Designation in 1999, and received his Certified Fraud Examiner designation in 2007 and his Certified Internal Auditor designation in 2009.

Mike Powell, President of Fort Amherst Health Care Services

Mike holds the title of President of Fort Amherst Health Care Services. He is a specialist in the acquisition and development of seniors housing assets, having completed over $600MM in transactions over the past 7 years. He has spent his entire career working in real estate finance.

Prior to joining Fort Amherst, Mike managed Portcullis Capital, a consulting practice that served as strategic advisor to several of the largest personal care home operators in Newfoundland. He has also been an Associate Director at a large Canadian merchant bank, as well as a Senior Associate with a leading Canadian Private Equity firm specialized in retirement home transactions.

Mike is a CFA Charterholder and also holds an MBA from the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University.

When not working, Mike can be found spending time with his wife and daughters on the East Coast Trail, and playin’ a few tunes.

Jason Harnum, Vice President of Operations

Jason Harnum joined the group as a Project Manager in April 2008 and has been responsible for overseeing internal and external projects from initiation to closeout ever since. Jason has overseen many residential and commercial projects in various industries including Automotive, Oil and Gas, Health Care and Hospitality. Jason is a registered Professional Technologist (civil engineering) with both a Masters Certificate in Project Management and a PMP designation from the Project Management Institute.

Jason currently holds the title of Vice President of Operations with Penney Group Inc. and is dedicated to the continued success of our group, our partners and our clients.

Nicole Perchard, Director of Real Estate and Communications

Nicole Perchard obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2006, and in 2014 obtained her Masters Certificate in Project Management. Since joining our group in April 2013, she has gained a great deal of experience in residential and commercial real estate, as well as marketing and communications.

Within Penney Group, Nicole is responsible for continuous management of several projects and existing properties in both Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. She is lead for all marketing and communications for several companies within the group.
